Endodontics

Inside the root of the tooth, there is a vascular-nerve package that feeds the tooth, popularly known as the “tooth nerve”. In any case this tissue is damaged or inflamed due to untreated caries, the process of removing the tissue, shaping and cleaning the root canal, and then filling the canal with fillers is called root canal treatment. After root canal treatment, the tooth does not become infected again, and it can be used for many years when anti-decay measures are taken.

How is root canal treatment done, and how long does it take?
The patient is anesthetized, the caries is cleaned, and a cavity is opened inside the tooth. The pulp chamber is reached, and the canals are entered from this part of the tooth with special tools. Various processes are applied to clean it from bacteria and disinfect it, then the pulp chamber and the canals are filled with various drugs according to the situation and closed with a temporary filling. This process may take several sessions. In some cases, root canal treatment can be done in a single session, while in abscessed and inflamed teeth, this situation is tried to be overcome by dressings, so the treatment is prolonged. After the tooth has healed, the canal filling is finished. How long this period will be depends on the condition of your tooth.

What should be considered during root canal treatment?
Do not use your teeth to chew hard foods between root canal treatment sessions. Your tooth may break because you have a temporary filling in it.
You may have pain complaints between sessions; consult your doctor for dressing.

You may have swelling in your face between sessions. There is nothing to worry about; this is a reaction caused by microorganisms and can be corrected with dressings.
