Teeth Whitening is the process of removing the discoloration that occurs in the structure of the teeth (enamel and dentin layer). There are two different whitening methods currently known. The first of these is a method that the patient will apply on his own (home bleaching). The second is whitening done by your doctor in the clinic (Office bleaching).
What are the methods of teeth whitening?
Home Bleaching
The doctor takes measurements from the mouth and prepares thin rubber molds that you can put on the teeth,
The patient should place the medicine in this special rubber mold and wear this mold on the teeth to be whitened for at least 6 – 8 hours a day. It is preferable to wear it at night while sleeping. If the sensitivity is high, the time can be reduced to 3-4 hours.
The whitening treatment should be continued for an average of 1 – 2 weeks.
Office Bleaching
In this procedure the bleaching agent is placed on the tooth by an experienced physician .
A white light source is kept on the relevant tooth for a certain period of time.
When the process is finished, the result of whitening can be observed immediately.
Although both methods are effective, the choice depends on the degree of coloration, how quickly the treatment is desired to be terminated, and the physician’s opinion.
How much whiter your teeth can be?
The result of whitening depends on the response of the teeth, it is difficult to say the exact whiteness it will achieve. While teeth with yellow tones can easily whiten 6 to 8 tones, it is more difficult to whiten teeth in gray tones. Your dentist will inform you about how much whiter your teeth can be in the first session.
What should be considered in the whitening process?
Teeth may feel sensitivity during bleaching. This sensitivity will go away when the bleaching process is stopped. If there is a tingling in the teeth, sensitivity is relieved by applying desensitizers to the teeth by the dentist.
Staying away from coloring foods (colored candies, coffee, tea, cigarettes) for 7-10 days after bleaching will ensure that the whiteness of your teeth will last longer.
